Scouts as Future Employees
When a young person is or has been a member of the Movement, you know that you have a potential employee who has participated in a structured programme designed to develop that individual's physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential.
Typical qualities you would expect to find in a Scout include honesty, resourcefulness, self-reliance, team skills, leadership potential and awareness of the needs of others.
If the young person states that he or she has gained one or more awards in Scouting, you will find it beneficial to ask about those achievements. The main Scouting awards allow a considerable choice within a framework designed to allow the individual to explore his or her full potential, so that each Scout can achieve the required award standards by different routes. Useful summaries of Scouting's awards are available on the national website - use the links below :
Overview
Chief Scout's Gold Award (Scouts)
Queen's Scout Award (Explorer Scouts and Scout Network)
As a 'ready reckoner' you can equate the Queen's Scout Award with Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award, although the Scouting requirements are arguably more exacting.
